Credit cards are a great tool to help you maximize rewards and make the most out of your everyday expenses. But don’t expect to get your credit card statements back in one handy travel report.

Here’s how it works.

The credit card issuer will report the credit card account to the four major credit reporting agencies – Experian, Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. They will then report the information to the major credit bureaus – TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. All that’s left is for the four credit reporting agencies to collate the information and make a summary available to the public.

The credit card company may send you periodic reports with any account activity that has been confirmed by you or your credit card issuer. The reports are useful for information on your credit profile. But it’s up to you to request a review if you believe that you are being treated unfairly. If you’ve received repeated reports from a credit reporting agency, you may be able to get a free copy of your credit report from each agency.

For other businesses, what can you do? You may want to explore options for your online or in-store disclosures – at least until you are able to send your free credit report to each major credit reporting agency and you find out for sure what data is being collected and sold to the various third parties.

You may also want to explore options for a company dedicated to business finance, such as FeeFax (free, web-based tool).
