So, I moved to Beijing to follow a post-proffesional masters program at Tsinghua University, but I bet a lot of you have never heard about Tsinghua; neither did I ’till about two years ago.
To introduce you to Tsinghua and to contextualize the fantastic opportunity I have to be a part of this institute, I have selected two short presentations that explain the character of the university.
First of all, according to Forbes magazine; the campus itself is regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world. Tsinghua is the only Asian university listed in the top ten, coming in at seventh place. That is largely due to it’s historical key-pieces, including a Qing dinasty garden with lotus pond and some significant architectural buildings from the start of 20th century. (some pictures here)
Education
When looking at educational identity, Tsinghua is regarded one of Asia’s top universities, and considered to be in the top 10′s or 20′s of international university rankings. In China it is definitely an elite opportunity to study here, claiming (in 2009):
” – 28 students ranked 1 st in science and 12 students ranked 1 st in arts from different provinces, regions and municipalities chose Tsinghua for their studies.
Half of the talents of China were admited to Tsinghua”
And:
” Tsinghua cultivate 3 kinds of people:
- Outstanding scholars
- Eminent entrepreneurs
- Great statesmen ”

Campus life
To give you a comprehensive overview of life on Tsinghua campus, here is another short presentation with some pictures and a good explanation of various parts of normal life. Such as, where do students sleep, what sports do they play, how does the dining hall look like, all the bikes around the campus, and so forth.
